Closer than the score would indicate

The city of Lima — or at least those who were playing on the city’s behalf, not that many of them work for the city — once again defeated the combined team of The Lima News and WLIO in softball on Friday. Don’t be confused by the 20-7 final score. It was much closer than that. (No, really, I mean it, promise, it was!)
Now, only another year of listening to the trash talk from City Hall.

****BREAKING NEWS IN SPORTS TODAY****MEDIA SCHOOLED BY CITY OF LIMA SOFTBALL TEAM***
The city of lima softball team dismantled the media all-stars on historic diamond 2 at faurot park today. Led by their wiley old coach Mike Caprella…And balanced hitting by the whole roster, the city was in complete control from the outset after rocking starting pitcher ron lederman for 12 runs in the first three innings.
Some highlights include a suprisingly athletic Mayor Berger Leading off and playing a solid left field…Councilman Kyle Lewis played a masterful defensive game behind the plate…Power hit of the game would have to go to Tony Caprella for his first inning blast that set the hitting tone for the whole game…Rick Stolly was the Cornerstone of the defense with catlike reflexes at first…in my humble opinion though the MVp of the game would have to go to Vince Ozier Who played a great defense in left center and great clutch hitting at the plate…And lets not forget Sam Mclean and Kristin (sorry didnt get her last name) for solid hitting all game…and last but not least big ups to brett roehm for his masterful complete game pitching performance and a couple of smashes to right…
Some Thank You’s…to Rick Stolly city parks director, Brett Rohem and the rest of the city parks crew for such a great job getting the diamond ready not only today but this entire season…the people that use the city facilities notice all the work you people are doing and appriciate it very much…it was such a blessing to play a ballgame on july 4th on a diamond that had a perfect playing surface…
And the bonehead decision of the game would undoubtedly go to whomever decided from the media team that TV44 Players werent allowed to play for the media…looks like you dudes could have used em…
Last but not least…big ups to Tom Lucente Of the media…Solid Game Tom…Didnt know you had it in ya and to Ari S form Wlio…sorry about the tag on the head…peace to you all and have a great FREEDOM WEEKEND

Ron,
You can’t beat, City Hall, or haven’t you heard that one. I am sure they brought in their ringers of steroid eating bruisers to beat you guys:-) I would have liked to see the game. You guys need to, maybe, I don’t know - Practice a little. Ha Ha

Hey, Sun, I pitched four innings, thank you very much. That’s how close the game was, that you lost track of my innings on the mound.
Thanks for bringing up one of the illegal city players, though. I intended to let that go. But, since you mention it, let’s address it: Yeah, imagine that, the sponsors wanted only players from the sponsors of the event. Wonder what the city will do when WLIO gets upset that TV 44 got a player in on the city team without sponsoring the event. (Funny that the event chairman, from the city, also played in the game, isn’t it?) We also snubbed a couple Fox guys, but they didn’t go running to the city team. But, just for fun, maybe next year, we can bring some bank players advertising their banks to see how Superior Federal Credit Union enjoys the free advertising for a competitor for an event said competitor isn’t sponsoring.

my assessment was tounge in cheek of course ron…game was alot of fun anyway…there were only two players for city who didnt work directly for city…one was son of longtime employee and other was husband of employee…if you only want sponsors of event then call it wlio/lima news v city…not media v city…was still alot of fun and im glad i got to play…happy freedom weekend ron…

Of course it was tongue in cheek. So is mine. We lost by a huge margin, so I’m making excuses. It’s what a team’s manager or coach is supposed to.
It was a lot of fun, even on the losing end. Even put up a photo of one of the losing coaches showing you how serious this all is.
