New Beck video: Lima has gangs, Berger to blame for influx of dead dogs

This just in from Lima mayoral candidate Dan Beck’s latest YouTube ad: Lima has a gang problem about which voters might not be scared enough, if they even know about it. I think the point of the video is the gang problem most of us don’t know about or feel afraid enough about. But it could be that Mayor David Berger is responsible for dead dogs.
I have a dog, so I can get behind that anger. It takes three minutes into this six-minute video to realize the Beck campaign is trying to highlight the “gang problem,” so I already was on the phone with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals before I realized I was supposed to be taking back Lima by voting to get rid of pooch hater Dave.
The video does make up for the late mention of gangs. It replays - over and over and over, then over and over and over again - the woman whose house burned down saying they don’t think there’s a gang problem here. Hey, great, Dan, pretty sure you’ve got this woman’s vote. Oh, wait, no, she’s leaving Lima. So what does this video tell the rest of us as to why we want to vote for you?
Candidate Beck again is telling Lima voters there’s a problem without offering any idea of how he would address it.

Ron As you know I have no problem blaming the “mayor for Life” burglar for a lot of the rot and decay, not to mention emptying of, Lima the last TWENTY long painful years. However, DEAD DOGS???? I stand in awe!!
It is really sad that Dan exploits this family’s tragedy for political purposes. How sad for the family….but Dan….shame on you!
On one hand we get Jennifer Beck’s syrupy sweet Letter to the Editor about the “goodness” of her husband’s actions and at the same time they continue to post these inane video clips with the sole purpose of scaring the begeebers out of Lima residents!!! What “noble” Christian tenet does that satisfy?
Did you really need to defend Berger on my dog-hating charges, JLR? Sometimes, even when the sarcasm puts your candidate at the butt of the joke, it’s best to let it go.
As for “exploiting” this family’s tragedy, it would be legitimate if Beck made it part of a larger picture. The family was willing to be in the ad, so it’s not much in the way of exploitation. But one family? And we don’t know really any of the reasons behind the boys allegedly setting the house on fire, but we’re to assume there’s a gang problem based on this. Dan might point to the rash of young boys throwing Molotov cocktails into houses on the north end, except they haven’t been there.
Ron, Too often good sarcasm is wasted, especially on the fervently committed, who much like the religious zealots, just do NOT like humor, sarcasm or otherwise, aimed at thier flawless leader, be he religious or political.
Also I don’t know if your postion at TLN gets you into the letters to the editor department or not, but look for a letter, or two, from the gang of 95 explaining the burglars love of all things animal!!
What is the gang of 95, Boomer?
The 95 souls (most from outside the city) who took out a full page ad in the paper pledging their undying loyalty to the “Mayor for Life” and who take turns writing daily letters that tear and strain to find something about the last twenty years that can be called a mayoral accomplishment in Lima.
boomer…looks like the mayors backers are trying to keep this election about the law enforcement arena…if the discussion goes toward the state of lima other than law enforcement then what can they talk about…
I’d be willing to talk about the state of Lima, sun. Thing is, that discussion involves talking about what you do to make it better. The one thing Dan has in mind is changing mayors, and poof, everything will be solved. Some of us more simple-minded folk would like to know how that will happen. So far, no one is saying.
Oh C’mon Sun there is a LOT to talk about!!!! We’ve got…ummm uhh well there’s a , um let me see…there are lots of free parking spaces that are empty…um uh no traffic, um uhh um lots of really really cheap housing, uhh it’s really easy to get drugs uh ummm a whole bunch of empty lots….and umm uh OH don’t forget to see my wonderful concreate slab out on Metcalf by the overpass!!! The future, well really really future saviour of Lima!! Yeah Sun I guess you have a point!!
Don’t worry Beck will blam Burger for the BARKING DOGS too.
Does Dan Beck know the boundries of Lima. Some of the area in question is outside the city limits. I bet Dan never knew that and that some of those gans were actually in his jurrisdiction when he was sheriff.
Patrick Then again since bungler claims credit for everything positive that happens in the townships, it seems only fair for Beck to blame him for the problems in the townships as well.
