Someone from the Dan Beck camp decided to have some fun with an internal Dave Berger YouTube ad. Thus we see the peril of posting internal ads on my blog, but that the Beck people also are reading me is soooooo flattering.
But, Camp Beck, since you’re reading: This is funny. It really is. But we all know you don’t think Berger has handled the problems as you see them. But, you know, 12 days before the election, you might try to explain what your guy would do other than not be Dave Berger.
agreed…btw…3 of you did a great job with the questions at the forum last night ron…
Thanks, Sun. Let me guess whom you believe did well: Doug, Jeff and, going out on a limb here, Ron?
I took some crap for what I posted about Ray Magnus sponsoring the council forum, but the chamber seems to not recognize conflicts of interest. In Ray’s case, he is suing one of the participants of the forum he sponsored and he’s endorsed another. In last night’s event, Judy Cowan works for the advanced energy center Berger founded. Even if you like the way she questioned Beck — and the aggressive style is used, if rarely here among the local media — Dan probably would have had a point arguing with her being there.
Funny Ron. I sat near someone who had never been to a forum like this before. Afterward, she asked me who the guy on end was who was so aggressive in his questioning.
I told her it was just a smart ass editor from the LN! Guess “aggressive” is in the eye of the beholder.
Ahhhhh….but I forget –the men on the panel were asking “pointed, focused” questions while the woman must have been asking questions in an “aggressive style”? geeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Men truly don’t get it. You really do not.
NO Jlr they were not pointed focused or even necessarily “aggressive”. They were biased questions designed to promote her chosen candidate. Might as well have been written by the burglar himself (were they??) She had no business being on the panel at all and certainly not if she is too stupid to even “pretend” impartiality!! Then again nobody ever accused the burglar of fairness!!!
Don’t get your ovaries in a bunch, JLR. The Lima News story, written by a woman, called it aggressive questioning. Judy was yelling at him. Rather than throwing around your claims of my sexism, why don’t you tell me what kind of questioning you think Judy was doing. I call it aggressive, and my swipe was at the local media, not at her. I liked how Judy went after him, but her ties to Dave make it seem questionable.
But you know, JLR, the Ray apologists got pissy so I guess I should expect the same from the Berger apologists.
The burglar, as Boomer calls Berger, didn’t set the rules. The chamber did. Thus my point about the problem being with the chamber. Same crap happened with Ray sponsoring the other forum.
I take that back. Ray only sponsored a forum. In this case, a person who works for a Dave enterprise asked questions.
Her questions were legit. I asked the same thing, in a different way. The problem is that no one offered a Dan partisan a seat at the table. Chamber screwed this up, and the League of Women Voters was there for the ride. Odd since both claim to be neutral.
im curious as to what mrs cowans answer to her own question would be…just how would/has she sold our city…
Pretty easy, Sun, and these are things Dan should have hit on. But back to Dan in a second.
I’m guessing a good, available work force would be in there. I’m guessing access to rail and intestate, and many local trucking companies. I’m guessing cooperating (despite the city-township-county rifts) local governments when it comes to tax breaks. I’m guessing a state willing to chip in with assistance. I’m guessing there are all sorts of tangible and not-so-tangible things you can come up with.
I’m not speaking for her, but to my knowledge Judy doesn’t come to the blog. But I covered business here long enough to know most of the answers. Dan and others might not want to admit it — and frankly, Dave is too far on the other side of this mood spectrum — but Lima has drawn companies, and continues to do so, so our positives are there.
As for Dan, the question Jeff or Doug asked, then Judy followed and I chased involved what would you say to sell the city to a prospective business. You’re going to tell me that Dan can’t come up with any positives about Lima to sell to a company offering to bring jobs? But Dave just wants to focus on how great everything is. Dan sounds like he hates the city. A combo of the two moods would be healthy.
“a combo of the two moods would be healthy”…think you summed it up pretty good right there…
That appears to be a paid commercial the Mayor was producing. I wonder if whoever “leaked” the footage to the Beck camp is worried about repercussions. It is humorous though.
Mrumer, it was a paid commercial that the Berger camp never used, I believe from four years ago. No one leaked it to the Beck camp.
I had a blog post about one of Beck’s YouTube ads, and you can see it copying and pasting the below address:
http://lederman.freedomblogging.com/2009/10/14/new-beck-video-lima-has-gangs-and-berger-responsible-for-dead-dogs/1725/
In this post, I suggested Dan Beck was saying Dave Berger was a dog killer. It’s a six-minute video, and it takes three minutes to get to the gang problem the Beck camp wants us to think Lima has. Along the way, however, we learn dogs died in a house fire — and it feels like a long time until we learn a gang allegedly caused this fire. I made the joke that the Beck camp was saying Berger is a dog hater or a dog killer or some such thing.
JLP posted a link to the unused Berger yawning dog campaign, just to show us what a “wonderful” sense of humor Berger has. It’s the first response under the above-referenced blog entry. You know, some people like Eddie Murphy. Others like knock-knock jokes. Others still find their humor in yawning dogs. I assumed the Beck camp got it there.
Sorry. No illegalities on this Web site.
